Conquer the Movement of Colors!
Written by Kwangtae Kim, the report in chief of Vergil America
The intense brush strokes are extraordinary. The energy in the primary colors is enough to feel the aura of the artist. The lines painted down in single strokes are the results of the combination of the technical aspects of the artist’s solid fundamental skills and the artistic aspects of the harmoniously chosen primary colors. Here the artist’s spirit winds around the entire canvas, drawing the audiences’ attention and taking their breath away. How does the artist hide these things in his mind and reveal it in a single moment?
The bliss the artist Ahn, Bok-soon feels is passionate. The peace of green comes down from the top. The passion of love given by red and the calmness of logos (reason) given by blue collides and flutters like a flag in the wind. Primeval chaos finds order as time passes. But chaos and order, seen in the frame of this whole universe, is only a cycle. From chaos comes order and from that order comes chaos. In the phenomena of creation and demise all the phenomena in the universe happen. All matter is beautiful when seen in the repetitive cycle of chaos and order.
The world that the artist is trying to show us is primeval wonders before religion was born. The basic elements made in the chaotic space paint the world with its unique color and spread. If the elements are atoms that make up the universe, the colors of those elements are the intense primary colors. The process of atoms combining with other elements while retaining its color is exciting. The chaos and order created by the combination of the colors make the canvas into a microcosm. She keeps the whole canvas harmonious while naturally maintaining the pure primary colors. This is probably the realization the artist had about color.
Portrait artist Hwang, Jae-jong describe her artwork like this: “Lawless Law(無法以法), there was no law in the beginning. The natural state of lawlessness is the purest. Her drawings are out of the way of the scale of her own sense. It is transcendence, not ignorance. She is a woman who has already mastered her realistic shape drawing technique. Through such factual specificity of the expressions her overripe and accumulated urge to express naturally is expressed from the inside like an active volcano. This may be the evidence of her inner necessities. In her world of painting her brush strokes following her inner necessities are the signs of her free will. It is a molding organized by her. There needs to be no measurement of perspective in her domain of painting. There is no need for general principles on her canvas layout. The traces of her impulse originating from the inside aspire for lawless and primitive life.
It is a huge fortune to be able to see Bok-soon Ahn, who is like a phoenix, in our time. If you want to see the colorful dance of the primitive colors, view her artwork!
